BRIGHTON CAMPAIGNERS IN FLORENCE FOR HUGE ANTI GLOBALISATION FORUM AND ANTI WAR DEMONSTRATION

Members of Brighton and Hove WDM were among a group of 30 local activists attending a huge social justice convention in Florence last week. This was a gathering of campaigners from 47 countries to oppose European governments' free market policies, and the neo-liberal policies of the G8 countries, the IMF and WTO. During four days, 25,000 activists attended 400 meetings on the themes of globalisation and liberalism; war and peace; and citizenship and democracy.

The finale was a peaceful march of 500,000 through Florence to oppose war with Iraq. " I am proud to have been part of this incredible new movement of groups who all believe that another world is possible" said Sarah Berger, of Brighton and Hove World Development Movement.
